Devil mask Dance Kandyan dancerRecorded history in Sri Lanka began when Buddhism gave birth to Cultural Revolution more than 2000 years ago. Almost 25 centuries later, Buddhism is still preserved in its purest form. Its doctrine of peace and tolerance has left its gentle mark on the land and her people. Sri Lankans are extremely friendly;hospitability plays a major role in their life style.
As varied as their land, Sri Lankans are piquant mix of many ethnic and cultural roots, live side by side in total harmony in democratic society.  Sinhalese are the majority who are Buddhists, while among the minorities are Tamils who are mainly Hindus, Muslims, Burgers who are descended from Portuguese & Dutch. There are Christians among the Sinhalese and Tamils too.
