Anurdhapura
The sacred city of Anuradhapura, founded in the 5th C. BC is venerated s the capital city of Buddhism. The sacred Bo-tree grown from a sapling of the tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, the towering Ruwanweliseya Dagaba, Thuparama Dagaba, Samadhi Buddha statue are some of the most imported religious sites in Anuradhapura. |

Mihinthale

Dambulla
The ancient monastery at Dambulla is best known for its rock temples and well-preserved 18th century paintings. Kandy

Kelaniya
Is located 11km. from Colombo and by the river of Kelani. Its history goes back to the Buddha’s living living period and is believed he visited this place during his third and last visit. The Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara(temple) was build around the area where the Buddha trod. There are many artistic paintings depicting life of Buddha done by well-known artist Solius Mendis. |

Katharagama
Situated in the Southern part of the isle, is a National Pilgrim Centre, venerated by Hindus, Buddhist and also visited by other devotees like Muslims and Catholics. The main festival is in July/August when a grand Perahera (procession) is held with up-country and low-country dancers, drummers, musicians, dignitaries and acrobats in colourful costumes and caparisoned elephants. |

Adam’s Peak
Adam’s peak or Sri Pada is one of the most important places of warship for all Buddhist devotees, with a height of some 7353ft. and this could be the most venerated mountain in the world. It is believed the footprint on the top of the mountain to have been setup during the last visit to Sri Lanka. Every year thousands of devotees flock together to the mountain during the pilgrim’s season in December to May. The spectacular scenery of sunrise, seen from the top of the mountain is an unforgettable experience. |
